Where did you have the wedding:
We had the wedding in an art gallery in a building which used to be a paper factory. It is situated in the country side outside Oslo in Norway.
What parts of your wedding were veganized:
Everything was vegan: the wedding dress, the suit, the food, the wine and the cakes. I guess the only exception was the guests’ clothes.
Tells us every little detail about the food!:
The food was made by people who we know who are active in the animal rights movement, and who have experience in making food for different animal rights events. They are not professionals, but no one could tell. First we had a soup, then a Mediterranean buffet, and for dessert we had fresh berries with vanilla cream. At last there was a wedding cake with marzipan, cream and berries, made by a catering company specialized in food with low carbon footprint. Our friends and family made different cakes for the cake buffet.
What was, hands down, the best part of the entire event:
The speeches and seeing how all the guests enjoyed themselves and loved the food.
What was the most challenging thing that happened – during prep of or day of the wedding:
The most difficult thing was to find a vegan suit for my husband. Some weeks before the wedding he finally found a nice cotton suit. I was a bit worried about the dress, but we ended up asking my mother-in-law to sew it. It was made of viscose and I really loved it.
What was the ceremony like:
We had a ceremony performed by the holistic society. We could influence a lot on how we wanted the ceremony to be, and it was very nice. It started with me coming into the room while two friends played a Norwegian wedding folk tone on the violin. Then, there was a simple ceremony including a poem and a song which everyone participated in. At last, a friend was singing “If not for you” by Bob Dylan while playing the guitar.
Do you have any advice to share with those who are currently planning their wedding:
Start planning a long time ahead, because it can take time to find everything you need. Don’t give up the idea of making an entirely vegan wedding – it was such a satisfying experience.
How long have you and your partner been vegan:
4.5 and 1.5 years.
